We are looking forward to sunshine and warmer temperatures this week - spring is definitely in the air.We also want to share an exciting community opportunity: the “Soups to Seeds” event will take place on Wednesday, April 8th from 4:00–6:00 PM at Kingston Secondary School. Free transportation will be provided from our school. Families who attend will enjoy a free soup dinner, receive seedlings, and take home a free 3D-printed flowerpot - perfect for growing plants indoors, even in smaller spaces. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!</li></ul> HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND SEXUAL HEALTH<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/policies-procedures" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">Form 325-D</a> on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction.</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered.</li></ul>INSURANCE<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">The LDSB requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the <a href="http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/services.aspx" target="_blank" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">Provincial Health Plan</a>, or purchase an insurance plan (<a href="http://www.insuremykids.com/" target="_blank" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">www.insuremykids.com</a>).</li></ul> ALLERGEN AND SCENT AWARENESS<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Thank you for packing nut-free snacks! Thank you!</li></ul> LICE CHECKS<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Note: We have heard of active cases of head lice amongst students - please check students thoroughly and reach out if you need support.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Head lice are common among school-aged children, and early detection and treatment help prevent them from spreading to others. Regularly checking your child’s hair and treating right away avoids unnecessary discomfort. </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">By working together as a school community, we can keep everyone healthy and comfortable. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. Year End Letter to Students and Parents

This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Pride Month Recognition in Limestone

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Education Centre, along with schools across the district, is recognizing Pride Month in the KFL&A region by flying the Progress Pride Flag for the remainder of the school year.The Government of Canada notes that the manner in which the Canadian flag is displayed is not governed by legislation. The guidelines provided are not mandatory for individuals or organizations but are intended to offer general direction.After consultation and clarification from Heritage Canada and communication with trustees, LDSB schools with only one flagpole will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag for the balance of this school year.  Limestone’s goal will be to increase the number of schools with more than one flagpole and/or the addition of yardarms to existing flagpoles to display more than the Canadian flag. Until this goal is achieved, we will fly the Progress Pride flag under the Canadian flag at sites with only one flagpole.Displaying the Progress Pride Flag is a way for LDSB to show support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This recognition does not diminish our respect for Canada’s national flag; rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students, staff, and families feel welcomed, valued, and respected in Limestone schools.Flying the Progress Pride Flag is one example of how LDSB demonstrates its inclusive culture. 2026 05 14 Community Foundation Grant for Summer Math and Literacy

LDSB Receives $25,000 Grant to Support Elementary Summer Learning

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) has received a $25,000 grant through the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area’s Community Grants Program in support of its Elementary Summer Literacy and Math Program.The three-week program supports Limestone students finishing Senior Kindergarten to Grade 3 by strengthening foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to help set students up for success in the following school year.Grant funding will be used to purchase literacy and math learning resources and to create family engagement packages. These take-home resources are designed to support learning at home and encourage families to engage in literacy and math activities alongside their students.The LDSB is grateful to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area for their generous support, helping students across the district access this important summer learning opportunity.
